“After a long history of dental complication, resulting from a childhood accident. I finally have a permanent set of fixed implants that not only feel strong and correct in my mouth, they also look great, just like a fine set of healthy teeth.

Thank you to all the team for their hard work and dedication.”

Dan Cooper 2019 4 years post treatment

The most fashionable solution for the replacement of missing roots and teeth are the dental implant crown, known as an ‘implant’.

Ideal for the loss of individual teeth or an entire set, an implant enables the perfect restoration of the mouth to its natural look, feel and working function; perhaps even better than the original, bringing a new confidence, chewing ability and improved overall health.

Quality Dentistry = Long-Term + Sustainable + Good Value. (Rehabilitation is a Program)

Implants are the best alternative for:

  1. Missing or failing teeth
  2. Loose dentures
  3. Gums with infection that have caused failing teeth
  4. Implants can hold a single tooth or multiple teeth

Our expert clinicians implant a titanium post or the latest ceramic post into the old root site making a new artificial root. We then handcrafted a ceramic crown becoming replacement tooth, this is then attached to the implant by a screw or a cushioning cement.

With the Same-Day Treatment, the artificial implant root is only used on that day if the implant is properly supported by the bone on surgical placement. This results in minimal trauma to the tissue, creating the best long-term healthy outcome with maximum non-traumatised healthy capillary blood supply.

Reasons to have an Implant

  • No more gaps, missing or compromised teeth
  • Superior option to dentures as fixed and sturdy, creating a younger appearance with no movement or discomfort
  • Alters your face shape if you are concerned, everything in the right place – jawbone and teeth, reducing the ageing effect
  • Lost tissue can be re-contoured to reduce food-packing and increase aesthetics
  • Bone loss in the jaw is halted and can be grafted back to full health if need be
  • Eat food you may have avoided for years
  • Teeth that can last a lifetime – figures show that 96% of implants remain while only 75% of natural teeth remain
  • Smile, speak, laugh and eat with confidence
  • The perfect match and fit for new crowns and missing roots, crafted by the only Vita-accredited Master Technician in the UK
  • Enjoy socialising and eating out again
  • Achieve natural-looking teeth and the smile you’ve always wanted
  • Remaining teeth are untouched
  • No plate in the roof of your mouth
  • The strongest and longest-lasting restorations a dentist can offer
  • Easy to maintain

Alternatives to Implants, not everyone can have them!

  • Add on teeth to existing implants
  • Add on teeth to existing crowns
  • Removal solutions with minimal soft tissue coverage for easy cleaning
  • Adhesive patented bridges that are placed onto your tissue and removed once a day for cleaning ( Maxi-Stick Bridge)
  • Discrete removal Cobalt Chrome, artificial replacements that can be easily cleaned and help to save the spaces ,sharing the load amongst your existing teeth not looking artificial

Recommended Patient Journey for Diagnosis

  • Decide on a comprehensive or single tooth diagnosis approach, as it can be as simple as an x-ray( recommend a Dental MOT)
  • Diagnose how much bone and what quality bone you have remaining and how many teeth it is best to replace in that bone
  • Decide on how best to harvest and save your bone without bone grafting prior to having a failing tooth extracted
  • Then we calculate what load you will need to carry on your newly proposed tooth treatment using simple dental design principles
  • Decide on a treatment program to stage your budget to achieve your chosen dental goal
  • Recommended to have back teeth replaced first so carrying the working load away from your front teeth
  • Lack of back tooth support will always need to be monitored more carefully as teeth can move and drop if they are left freestanding
  • Plan the make of implants to best support your dental gaol, a key factor being long-term maintenance. Ceramic Implants (made from Zirconium oxide) and metal implants called Titanium implants they have advantages and disadvantages individual to your own biology
  • We then discuss if you would rather be sedated for the treatment
  • The amount of time you can invest into your treatment can influence your healing time, from Same-Day Treatments to long-term healing processes (up to 6 months for the implants to take into the bone properly), these all have advantages and disadvantages
  • Our principle is to save existing teeth but rid your bone of all infections, in and around the site of implant placement

Warning issued by dentist against ‘Turkey teeth’

Posted by: The Probe      7th August 2019

One of the UK’s top cosmetic dentists is warning people against travelling abroad in the hope of a cheap fix after seeing a huge rise in ‘Turkey teeth.’

Dr Ken Harris, who runs the multi-award winning Riveredge Cosmetic Dentist in Sunderland, has seen a massive rise in people needing remedial treatment after travelling to Turkey for cosmetic dentistry. He is urging people to think twice before agreeing to bargain price veneers, which can cause a huge amount of damage to teeth.

“We have seen a number of people who have gone to Turkey and then decided to have their teeth done, or booked a travel package which includes some kind of cosmetic treatment,” said Dr Harris.

“The results in some cases have been horrendous. The teeth are ground down to virtually nothing and then in some cases it is crowns, not veneers, which are being fitted and then the patient comes home and realises how many problems they now have.”

Dr Harris is also concerned at the “assembly line” approach of some clinics, where people are literally in and out in a few hours.

“To get this kind of treatment done takes time if it is done right,” he said. “It’s impossible for veneers to be fitted in a few hours and this is why people find they need a huge amount of work done to have them corrected, although in some cases their teeth are completely ruined.”

He advises anyone thinking about travelling for this kind of treatment to get proper advice and do their research before making the decision.

“While it may seem a very good deal, in the long run it can set people up for problems that they might never recover from,” said Dr Harris.

Riveredge Cosmetic Dentistry has a world-wide reputation, with Dr Harris (BDS, MFGDP, FFGDP RCS (Eng), MSc Restorative and Aesthetic dentistry) one of only two Fellows of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (BACD) and a regular lecturer to dentists around the globe.

He is recognised as one of the leaders in the field of cosmetic dentistry, often being brought in by other practices to handle complex cases.

The strong team at Riveredge includes Dr Richard Coates BDS (UNcle) Pg Dip CID, who chairs The North East Private Dentists group, is a long standing member of The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and holds a diploma in implantology from Newcastle University.

Our Comprehensive Approach to True Oral Health

  • A Biological Diagnosis  is standard in most high street practices, we would recommend a Dental Mot
  • A Functional Diagnosis will assess your jaw position relying on your existing tooth position, incorrect tooth position will carry this jaw position into a state of muscle and joint fatigue
  • A patient cannot always assume they have not looked after their teeth
  • If your jaw is out of line it can lead to many broken teeth and fillings, resulting in failing teeth over a period of time
  • Early symptoms would be obvious signs like clicking jaw joints and morning headaches
  • The strongest structure in your mouth will be your natural teeth, at best, any replacement will be reliant on a Functional Diagnosis to maximise the longevity of the tooth replacement
  • This can only ever be at best 80% as strong as a natural tooth
  • Implants can hold a single tooth or multiple teeth
  • A Same Day Implant will hold all the contours of your gum and bone in the right place from the beginning and maximises essential blood flow around the healing implant
  • A one stage surgery approach leads to the best tissue support and general oral well being

Immediate Implants, Less Time, Excellent Results!

An implant placed immediately is one surgical procedure and with the addition of localised Stem-Cell regrowth of bone and soft tissue, giving selected bone and soft tissues the quickest most pleasing recovery in days. A consideration on the Same Day Implant Treatment is dependent on how well the implant sticks to the bone on the day of placement. This is an unpredictable entity for the Practitioner.

The award winning laboratory team with the handcrafted ceramic crown is essential for this service.

Alternatives to Missing Teeth

A dental implant is a surgical procedure in which a replacement tooth root is placed and fused with the jawbone.

While dental implants work well when replacing a single tooth, they may not be the best option for multiple teeth replacement. That said, dental implants provide the look and feel of natural teeth and can last for years, if not decades, without needing to be repaired or replaced.

However, since a dental implant requires surgery and typically cost more than bridges or dentures, they aren’t right for everyone.

Quite simply, a fixed bridges the gap between one or more missing teeth.

The process of implementing a fixed bridge usually involves multiple trips to the dentist, as the process of placing the implant, customizing the bridge and placing the bridge in the location of the missing teeth takes time.

Once the bridge is in place, however, a fixed dental bridge looks, feels and functions like natural teeth, does not require removal for cleaning and is typically much more cost effective than a dental tooth implant.

A resin-retained bridge is often much less invasive than a fixed bridge.

While a fixed bridge is best for teeth that are relied upon for chewing, a resin-retained bridge can be a good alternative for missing front teeth, which typically don’t endure as much pressure.

A resin-retained bridge attaches onto the neighboring teeth on each side. Although they are known for being less durable than a fixed bridge, they also tend to be much less expensive.

A removable partial denture consists of replacement teeth for a small section of missing teeth and look and function as normal.

While a removable partial denture is great for chewing and aesthetic appeal, they are far less durable than a tooth implant or bridge and can become uncomfortable when worn for an extended amount of time.

Depending on how many teeth you currently have, removable complete dentures can be fairly invasive and require multiple trips to the dentist.

Unlike a removable partial denture, where only a section of missing teeth is replaced, a removable complete denture is used to replace most, if not all, teeth.

While a removable complete denture is both aesthetic and functional, they can be uncomfortable and aren’t to be worn for 24 hours a day.

From: Rita Bowser

“I would like to provide you with my feedback on the recent replacement of a crown which had broken.

As you will recall, I am new to the area. I lost the crown during my move, and had a temporary fix put in place by dentistry. I was not happy with the work, and looked for another dentistry that understood the importance of the technical and cosmetic solution.

Illume was that right dentistry. Sarah Moore and her associates reviewed the problem with me and discussed a range of options for the replacement crown. We agreed upon a solution, and Sarah then arranged for me to personally visit the Implant & Ceramic Centre Ltd for customising my crown. It was important that this crown be made just right – it was the interface between two other teeth of different shades – I referred to it as my “transition tooth.” TJ at the centre understood perfectly, and worked with me to not only have a comfortable fitting crown, but one that was the right shading (actually a variety of shades to look natural and transition). He shaded and fired the crown until we both thought it was just right. Sarah put it in place. After the first day or the rest of my life with it, I can tell you I am happy (those who know me will assure you that I don’t say that lightly).

My personal thanks to everyone at Illume and the Centre who took the care to make this experience a positive one.”

Same-Day Implant Treatments

These are ideal for re-contouring the soft tissue, which means that the blood supply is minimally traumatised in your gums by eliminating repeated surgery over months and stopping excessive scar tissue. This way soft tissue have the best chance of tissue regrowth and recovery.

When it comes to root replacement, dental implants are usually the number one option to consider. Bone growth is enhanced through dynamic bone stimulation of a healing implant. Where several new teeth are required, we offer the fantastic All-on-4 system. Alternatively, we create new teeth and gums to replace missing sections not just teeth.

Together, we have all resources on one site to be the best in our profession. The team here have such a broad base of expertise, skills and experience in every area of dentistry that treatments are predictable, smooth running, quick and affordable.

This patients’ right central incisor was failing, and he was going to lose the tooth. The patient decided to have a Same Day Implant placed as well as to change two of his old crowns. The aim was to achieve a healthier, more natural appearance as well as to reduce the grey colour to his gum caused by metal bonded restorations.

One implant and two all ceramic crowns placed on the same day.

The patients’ anterior teeth were mismatched in colour and the shape made her appear older.

She had her four front teeth crowned with all ceramic restorations to match her remaining teeth and the change would be so subtle that only she would notice it and was comfortable.
